Student Intern Volunteer Position Now Available--Spring
2012

If the answer to these questions is yes, you should apply for the volunteer student intern position with the
John George Democratic Club.
Learn about the political process—interview elected officials, campaign for local and national candidates, register
people to vote, learn how to speak on current issues, gain experience working for social justice with veteran activists, and
provide a voice for youth in this year’s city, county, state, and national elections.
Start Date: Now through December 2012; 2-4 hours per week
Description: The intern will assist with planning and promoting:
· March - forum
on Haiti: After the earthquake and the politics of Haiti
· May - JG
Youth Award: essay/art contest West Oakland elementary, middle, and high school student
o Essay for middle/high school students: “What does ‘We are the 99%’ mean to you? How do you
think the 99% can be united, and what are the barriers that might prevent it from happening?”
o Art for elementary students: “What
does ‘the 99%’ of the population look like?”
· Candidate and Initiative/ballot measure
endorsement meetings
o April for the June primary
o September for the November general
election
o October for special district candidates, Statewide initiatives and local ballot
measures
· Update the Club's webpage and launch a club
