Essay Contest
This contest honors the memory of the late Alameda County
Supervisor John George, Alameda County’s first African American member of the Board of Supervisors, and a tireless
fighter for health care, education, the rights of labor and poor people, a better environment, and peace and social justice.
This year the United States will elect a
new president:
· Elementary School
Children: Draw a picture showing if you were president, how you would change the way your neighborhood
looks. (11 inch by 17 inch maximum size).
· Middle and high
school students: Write an essay on the topic, “What would you do if you were President?/What
would you like the next President to do?”-- 500 words max.
The winners will each receive a $200 gift certificate and
a $200 savings bond.
